The very simple way is to take the nut off the idler sprocket. Shove the wrench in between the spring tension and the little cast piece and push towards the auger. Gives you plenty of slack.

You pull the old chain off with the idler sprocket still in it. Put the idler sprocket in the new chain before putting back on. Very simple and you don't have to take the tension bolt and spring loose unless there is a problem there during inspection.
