"Seal" is a very general term. Proper procedures will vary greatly based on the specifics of the individual situation. There is no one all-encompassing right answer to your question other than think about what you are doing, use more caution than haste, and don't hesitate to seek the opinion of someone knowledgeable on the specific machine you are working on.
