Granted, 275HP isn't a lot, but when you say you "need" 400 or 430 horses I just don't understand. Are you hauling through the Rockies? Don't want to ever downshift? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have a truck with 4 or 500HP but I don't need it. We have some steep hills between farms and elevator and load in the field. We have an old IH straight truck that can haul 550 bushels with a 238HP Detroit and a Western Star tractor pulling 1000 bushels with 315HP Cummins. Both are on Hendrickson suspension, 10 speed and 13 speed respectively and are geared low. Both only run a little over 55 empty but get the job done. If the OP is planning on expressway driving then 275 would be marginal at best, but should work ok for local use.
