southwest minnesota
how many acres of alfalfa are you putting up for feed? More specifically how many acres per head roughly? how many cuttings per year do you keep for your own feed needs? Do you still sell your first cutting to the dairy? How do you figure your $$ per acre return for the alfafa? Sorry for all the questions, im just trying to figure out how to compare an acre of corn or soybeans to an acre of alfalfa or oats revenue wise. Hard to convert corn/soybean acres to a forage even if its for feed (probably more of a mental hurdle rather than a $$ hurdle).
