Have you taken off all the rubber "ear savers"? both the flaps over the chains AND the black piece over the snoot. Any time you run in down corn and don't want to spend the money on a reel taking those off helps tremendously.
I still get a lot of wrapping around the ends, I am planning on fabricating some end rollers because they want too much money for their factory fitted ones.
