Bigger farms are naturally more spread out and self insured to the aspect that it is unlikely that all of their land gets hit by disaster.
Not all big farms are leveraged to an extreme level. It's a lot easier to get a young farmer that owns a few quarters or less maxed out on credit than the established guys with dozens or more quarters paid for.
If crop insurance went away it would squeeze the younger and less established operators out. It would favor the larger operators that can self insure and have deeper pockets. Kind of like every other industry out there. And the big operators kids. |
