| If we don't subsidize agriculture in some way, banks will be very hesitant to loan money to farmers. How many countries can survive without subsidizing farming? We spend less on food as a percentage of income compared to most, if not all countries. We're the only country that spends less on food than healthcare. We might have an imperfect system but no other system works better. I try to explain to people that socialism has a poor history of feeding their people and that capitalism is a much better choice. But it would be very difficult to support farming without some type of subsidy program. Crop insurance is unpleasant but it seems to work. But I'd prefer if we had a limit on how much we subsidize crop insurance large farms. But I'm still unsure what the magic number is. | |
