East of Broken Bow | I've done the switch, couldn't be happier.
Around here, a new rim is a little under $100, or around 80 if you get 4 at once.
Used, in excellent condition is $50
I wouldn't hesitate to switch over again. The cost of the 22.5 tires is a bit higher than the 20 inch when you look on the surface, BUT if you get 20 inch radials, with the same load carrying capacity, they will cost just as much, or even more than the 22.5s. You do need to buy a rim, but you won't ever have to buy a tube or rim liner again. In my experience, the tube & liner offset over half the rim cost.
Also, don't even get me started on availability. I was always hearing 'we can get you a 20 inch tire in a day or two' and now I hear 'yea, we have an 11 x 22.5 on hand'
Lastly, would be used value. If your truck blows an engine or is in a wreck where you won't ever drive it again, an almost new 20 inch tire isn't worth much of anything. There are literally waiting lists for good usable 22.5 tires at the place I buy my tires from.
