IL | I've experienced it in the St.Louis area too. I buy used because I can't afford to pay cash for brand new. I knew what I wanted with my last car purchase and found it on route 3 in East St.Louis. I called ahead and let them know I'd be there in an hour for a test drive. After the drive we went into the price negotiations and he started talking payments. I just laughed and put $100 bills on the guys desk and said that's what I'm willing to pay out the door all cost involved. He cut 35% off the price to make it happen. While doing the paperwork I witnessed no less than 5 people come through the front door to make $10 to $50 payments to keep the repo man away.
I asked the salesman after it was over why he didn't try and counter my offer. He laughed and said "if you're driving through east St.Louis wearing bib overalls and that kind of cash I'm not about to piss you off". Claimed he'd made enough money off that car since it had been repoed 3 times already. | |
