SE MT | Boone and Crockett got me thinking about the first gun I actually owned, which was given to me when I was 16 years old on Christmas Day. A Ruger model 96 lever action chambered in .17 HMR which at that time was just a new caliber coming out. I sold it about 15 years ago briefly but was able to buy it back. They don't make this gun anymore and there are very few around. The one 39a is my great-grandfather's that was worn out and got neglected but I have restored to shooting condition. and the one that is darker , the golden 39a is one I bought that is of the 1968 vintage. I was able to get it on GunBroker about 8 years ago for a very fair price, and the gun is excellent. It's already doubled its value. If you can find a gun without a safety it's actually worth something
I would love for my son and daughters to be able to grow up shooting these lever guns, there's just something about them when you run the action, a personal connection to those guns when you chamber a round in fire them. They are something to look at and if I can be frank the looks of the Marlin 39a is as sexy as they get.
