You are correct, with a Deere planter it always wants some type of ground/radar speed in addition to GPS speed, that way it always has a fallback if needed. Non electric drive Deere planters actually use only ground or radar speed, so that is when we need to send the simulated radar from a receiver into the system as "radar" speed.

If you're using a full greenstar harness, there should be two connector for either radar or GPS speed along with a radar plug connector. You'd need to send a speed signal into one of them if you're only sending serial GPS into the back of the display with no Deere receiver at all attached.
