SE Iowa, Henry County | Every year, i just make one set of tracks for grain hauling and sometimes those tracks go down 12” or so depending on the rainfall received. Then when done, i take the field cultivator over just the tracks a couple of times so the floaters don’t break an axle and all is good. I have to notill ‘cause my soil floats. I usually dont have a problem with tracks on bean ground. It's the corn ground end rows where the tractor and wagon sit that are more compacted because of all the volume compared to soybeans. But with the advent of modern yield monitors, the bean yields on the endrows are virtually the same as within the field.
As far as soil testing, when the soil is very dry (not a problem this fall), the probe doesn’t go in very easily as compared to just after a rain - then it’s like cutting through hot butter.
