So not sure on the macks if this is applicable or if you already looked into it but on our trucks there is a intermediate rod, or "plug" that goes in between the pedal and valve rod, typically made out of aluminum. It sits in a housing that holds the pedal And goes through the floorboard, we've had issues where this "plug" corrodes and sticks, with light pedal applications they won't stick, with a heavier pedal application it'll stick, and then I've been able to get it to return if I really bounce on the pedal.

Like I say maybe not applicable, but we've had two trucks do it.
