I'm with you, Dave. I do almost all cooking from scratch. I rarely buy prepared meals. My food budget runs about half of what yours is running. So, I think you could definitely save some money by cooking from scratch. If you can bite your tongue and stay quiet when she cooks, I don't see why she can't return the favor when you cook. Maybe on a regular basis, you should offer to prepare the meal - maybe once a week on the weekend.... more often if you prefer. I think that would be great. And as far as making mashed potatoes, they are easy-peasy to make from scratch. I can't see why anyone would need to buy them out of a box - especially if they take just as long to prepare.
