At work we've replaced rear cross members in at least 2 of our timptes. I did one of them. Got the same size tube but in 3/8". I also drilled 2 small weep holes in each end at the bottom. That will outlast the rest of the trailer. It's not a fun job, taking all the tires off helps immensely. Wear a mask and have a nice fan blowing fresh air in as you're basically in an enclosed box.

I guess you could slide the whole rear assembly out and replace pieces that way. I just cut the cross members out, put new one in and welded the brackets on the ends once the tube was in place and the brackets were bolted up.
