Faunsdale, AL | I have a piece of a polyethylene chemical drum cut to fit where the stainless steel access door used to go. Even though original door was worn out, a new door wouldn't help because the steel around the edges is worn out too. The slice of plastic slides under the tensioner shaft on the "up" side and has holes for the remaining 3 door retaining studs and nuts to fasten it down on the front/"dump" side.
A side benefit is when the auger gearbox packs it in, the plastic will push out from under the tensioner shaft and grain will fountain out the top for a while. Of course my back windows were so dirty I didn't notice until the elevator finally packed up and kicked the belt off. Not sure why I didn't notice the beans hitting the cab roof 'cause it will fling a few forward. I was able to finish the day cutting pitiful soybeans next to the truck and unloading 20-30 bushels at a time. Lots of driving, very few beans to unload! | |
