Subject: RE: Banding dry with planter

Central South Dakota
We blow it on top right in front of the row units but the tube drops behind the martin whippers 1 3/4" tube with a relief cut. We have pushed up to 500#/ acre through it this way. Urea, MESZ, AMS, Potash all in the mix. We plant at 6mph. Planter running over it stirs most of it in, but not all of it. We used to have an opener on the front, but when we are trying to push 350 acres/ row through a planter if we started fighting a homemade opener boot plugging or if we started fighting some bearing problems, it just slowed us down too much. Maintenance costs have dropped considerably since we aren't maintaining a separate set of openers and we still get the benefit of getting the fertilizer applied in one pass without the added cost of drilling it in, paying the coop to spread, or having to maintain a separate fertilizer bar.
