Subject: RE: Dad demoed an early 8030 in 1982.....

West of Mpls MN about 50 miles on Hwy 12
They sure did.

We were going South custom cutting wheat with seven Deere combines from Texas to South Dakota back in the early 80's. One of our custom cutter friends, a die hard Baldwin (Gleaner) owner, traded eight almost brand new N's for brand new L-3's one day out o the clear blue. With eight combines he couldn't keep two running at the same time.

I-H had their share of issues with 14 series also. People tend to forget, or don't know about the many issues they had. Guys were painting almost new 1480's yellow and parking them along side busy state hwys.

Many farmers used to ask what color combines custom cutters had before hiring them back then. If you didn't have a Deere, many times you didn't get the job.

FWIW, my current combine is a 8010...my dad almost disowned me the day I traded my 9600, and our last bought new in 1982 7720 for it.
