| This arrest has been compared to China arresting Bill Gates. This is what China and every other authoritarian country does when it runs out of diplomatic options. They just go out and start arresting foreigners. It's a last resort thing. We don't exactly know what Huawei has done to trigger such a radical response from the trump administration but it better be something way more serious than just selling some equipment to the Iranians. After all, up until a few weeks ago, selling telecom equipment to the Iranians was legal. In fact, China even got waivers to continue buy Iranian oil indicates that the trump administration wasn't willing to go to the wall with China over oil imports.
It's possible that trump just felt ticked off because his trade war gambit fell through and decided to strong arm Xi but I hope not.
One thing for sure, our chance to sell soybeans to China just became way more uncertain. | |
