What are you trying to fix. Dust, mold, odor, stuffy?? Most air cleaners are putting a band-aid over the problem. I tested indoor air in homes and commercial bldgs for many years and seldom found air cleaners would be abenefit. Also only a couple times when duct cleaning benefited. If you have radiant / hydronic heat and no fan to distribute air; then possiblly an air cleaner would help. Be very cautious of ION/ Ozone air cleaners. ( I personally do not recommend) HEPA filters ore okay.

Most common indoor air problems I encountered:

Furnace filter -- plugged, wrong size, missing; pleated filters (merv 8-11) much better than OEM
cracked heat exchanger, burner adjustment -- high CO2 and or carbon monoxide
humidity -- too much , not enough, should be 20-40%, mineral build up on plates blowing into ductwork, dust mites
dirty carpet-- dust, cigarette ashes, soap residue from DIY carpet shampoo, worn out vacuum cleaner
candles, air fresheners, fabric softeners; too much a bad thing
