I remember when big auditing firms took their job very seriously. That all seemed to fall by the wayside when they started selling management services to the same companies that they were auditing. Instead of being the tough accountants that looked for mistakes in a business's records, they decided it was easier and more lucrative to be mgmt's buddy. You aren't going to sell many services to a CEO that you just raked over the coals because his financial statements were full of baloney.
