Gas drilling flopped after the Marcellus and other shales produced an over supply of gas. And there generally is gas where there is oil.

So then all the companies dropped gas and went for liquids. That is what beat up Chesapeake.

I don't know for sure but the Permian Basic is prob all horizontal and fractured.
