North Central Illinois | Yes, you are correct. As has been stressed over and over the tanking of the soy market was about more than just the tariffs. The tariffs absolutely made a bad situation worse and probably account for about 50% of the decline. We have just been raising too darn many beans! This isn't a new problem either. It has been creeping up on us for a few years now. IF we can get the trade situation resolved and get exports somewhat back on track it will help a little but it still leaves us with a pile of beans. The South American crop and planted acreage is another huge factor. We absolutely need to get the trade situation resolved but as you say we have a lot of other problems too. If we can get a hard and fast rally in corn and beans it may be a good opportunity to get some coverage on for 2019 crop. | |
