What is a sister city?
It is a city in another country that a domestic city has an ongoing relationship with.
In our case, Richland Center, WI, we have two sister cities; Yueqing China and Santa Teresa, Nicaragua.
The relationship with Santa Teresa was established to promote people-to-people relationships between Richland Center, Wisconsin, and the municipality of Santa Teresa in Nicaragua. The community contributes agricultural, medical, legal and educational aid to the residents of the Chacocente region. Recent projects have included the construction of latrines, wells, and a school building, beekeeping and agricultural inputs, health training and medical supplies.
The relationship with Yueqing was established initially because there are a number of Chinese students going to school at a two year campus in our community. A fair number of these students live with host families. Now, the relationship with Yueqing is evolving into establishing business relationships.
