| There are a lot more barriers to entering the auto industry than ag. Not so much in the US, but in Africa, give each person in a tribe a bag of seed corn and they can grow a crop with a little direction. Look at how quickly South America became a player. In the auto industry, you have to be capitalized pretty damn well to make the first car, let alone the next 10,000.
You're right that inventory is generally controlled in industry, but ag is not like most other industries. Ford knows how many F-150s they're gonna make in 2019. How many bushels of corn are you gonna have? That's just for starters.
