Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | For several years, I used an Ag Leader Insight with a Trimble 332 and Nav II for steering. Since I was using Omni-Star I wished to keep it converged during planting season. This required parking the tractor out in the clear and keeping the receiver ON. Since the wiring to the the 332/Nav was separate from the Insight it was quite easy to wire the GPS "hot".
I found that sometimes starting the tractor dropped the battery voltage low causing the GPS to dropout and lose convergence. This defeated my whole idea of wiring it "hot". To get around this, I installed a small lawn tractor 12V battery in the cab and ran the GPS off of it. I wired this battery to the tractor electrical system but used a diode in between.
This cured my dropout problem. The GPS was living off of the small battery so it stayed converged. The small battery was charged by the tractor system when the tractor was running but would not drop the voltage to the GPS circuit while starting due to the diode. |
