October 31 (Renewables Now) - The National Council for Energy Policies (CNPE) proposed on Monday the gradual increase from 10% to 15% of the mandatory share of biodiesel in regular diesel sold in Brazil. The proposition will, for the first time, give the country a steady and predictable schedule for the upcoming years, the Ministry of Mines and Energy said. More specifically, the addition of biodiesel is proposed to increase one percentage point per year, going from the current 10% (B10) to 11% (B11) in June 2019. This increase will continue through March 2023, when all diesel sold to the final consumer will contain a 15% blend. The additional mixes are conditioned to the results of future tests. Brazil estimates its annual biodiesel production to jump from 5.4 billion litres (1.4bn gallons) to more than 10 billion litres between 2018 and 2023. This expected growth represents an 85% increase in domestic demand, the ministry noted. |
