Subject: RE: California is likely to phase out Non-Renewable Natural Gas

I understand that there are odor and pollution issues with manure lagoons that could be reduced by running a digester. But wow, nobody is using livestock manure as fertilizer, where is that? The same thinking led to the building of a power plant that was going to use turkey litter as fuel, it later started burning waste wood/wood chips in order to keep collecting the renewable fuel credits and finally was purchased for the credits and shut down. The RNG process sounds like the same thing, get govt incentives to build something that only has value as long as the renewable fuel credits are really high. I think the idea of the digesters makes a lot of sense from the odor and pollution point of view and any electricity or RNG that they produce is a bonus that should be used to offset the govt incentives that help fund the construction.
