South Central Iowa

propery taxes were $8000 per year

Yeah, that's pretty high for bare agland without improvements. For most of the state, cropland taxes range from the mid-teens to low thirties. 70 csr ground in central Iowa is often low $20's and the most prime 95+ csr ground in NW Iowa is around $30. So the $40 an acre for their taxes is pretty steep for this land use and type. It's probably because it is within city limits, but perhaps it's higher over there in the far-east anyway. It's not my area.
