southern MN | In our heavy clayish soils an inch and a half rain dosnt soak in for several days except the dry heat of late August. The ground looks pretty wet with 6000 gallons on it.
I finally snagged some hog manure this fall, I planted 15 acres of small grains and they could run in late August. They seemed to like that option!
I think manure offers a lot of small benefits you can’t get from commercial. But commercial is valuable to balance out and even up the manure.
Hopefully I got my foot in the door for more in the future. I can see three hog barn setups from my yard, but still with the lay of the roads around here it’s a long haul to most of my fields.
