Likely because if one wants to cherry pick data it is a good time to pick. The soybean number is due to late planting in Brazil last year and the Arg drought cutting a large amount of bushels. So it was a perfect storm of a late start to the Brazil shipping season and the making up of the shortfall of Arg beans. That is unless you want to pin that on the POTUS.

The corn number is influenced mainly by the size of the Brazilian crop one year to the next.

A better look would be to compare marketing year numbers.
