Subject: RE: New clothing allergies

De Forest, WI

If you buy any clothes that say wrinkle-Resistant, non-iron, etc. then they are treated with formaldehyde resin.  This locks the warp and weft (vertical and horizontal weaves) together so they can not slide over each other.  This is how the shift becomes non-iron, but it also can make the shirt a little rough.  Some people are very allergic to formaldehyde.  There is no way to wash it off.  It is embedded into the fabric itself.

I would suggest you buy some shirts that require ironing and have no stain treatments.  They are not so easy to find.  My guess is that you will no longer itch when wearing traditional clothing.

What type of washing machine do you use?  Many of the new high efficiency machines do not use enough water in their rinse cycles and/or do not do enough rinses.  Maybe turn on water plus or similar and add an extra rinse and see if that helps.
