Darn tough is supposed to be the ultimate brand of socks. Lifetime warranty. If they ever wear a hole or stretch, mail it back and they'll send you a new one. Cost 20+ bucks a pair. I splurged. Nice socks, hope they stay that way. My sister says Smart Wool is similar in quality but easier to find deals. She's worn those for a number of extended hiking excursions.

Link to the Darn tough FAQ's. The above socks are the "cushion" weight(explained in the FAQ's). I would not call them heavy winter socks. They feel more like all-season socks that should perform well in winter, which is what I wanted.
