Everytime I go to the store and grab a 700, I think I need one. I think this winter I'll finally make that happen. Do you have a scope on yours?
I've got a few, scopes on all of them. I generally use Nikon scopes. I've always thought they had the best optics for the money. The 700s I throw in the pickup usually have a $2-300 3-9 or 4-12 on them. I've got a couple others for varmint shooting with higher end scopes, but the cheaper Nikons are just fine.
I also prefer older 700s. The newer ones seem cheap to me. You can refurbish one reasonably, parts are everywhere and cheap because of the popularity of the 700. Very few people have ever shot one enough to wear the receiver or barrel. I kind of enjoy working on them though, realistically the new ones are fine. |
