Subject: RE: Planting soybeans way too deep

central - east central Minnesota -

newholland4life - 11/8/2018 10:04 My bean yields absolutely suck this year. Off about 20% and we had a good growing season. The only variable that changed was planting depth. It's my responsibility, but some operators didn't check seed depth (again my fault) and buried them 2.5-3". Stands suck and it seems the beans never got in gear. Anyone else ever see this as a big yield robber?

You mention the stand sucked ?  What was sucky about it ? What was you final population ? If you feel the 2-3 inch planting depth lead to a final stand count below 85,000 - then maybe the yield was limited. As a limiting factor, planting depth (by itself) doesn't affect yield.
