I haven't read all the replies, so not sure if this was mentioned or not.

In 71 when I was there (I was 16), yeah, lots have changed since then but................... the historic sites are still the same with some additional ones.

Mt Vernon was the most impressive to me as a kid then. I was part of the 4H Citizenship Short Course and spent 10 days. Washington Monument, Capital (that one spot you can hear a whisper from how many feet away?? COOL), Ford's Theater, Lincoln, Jefferson, Gettysburg, Smithsonian, White House tour, etc.

The Smithsonian and Mt Vernon are the two that stand out in my mind to this day.

White House may have stood out more, but our visit with President Nixon was called off at the last minute, so we just got the canned tour at the time.
