Subject: Bushels and test weight

ROCKHAMPTON CENTRAL QLD

OK sorry for this but can someone explain to an outsider how you guys get paid for your grain. Here, and i think everywhere else in the world yields are tonnes/tons per Hectare or acre. You then get paid for the weight you deliver,Simple.

So when you deliver grain how do they come up with the amount of bushels, surely they don't measure it all by volume? I assume it is weighed and then divided by 56 or whatever a bushel is. so depending on the test weight you will get a different amount of bushels for the same volume?? If that's the case i can see why there is so much "discussion" about test weight.

Wouldn't be easier and fairer to just pay by weight ?
