flatlick farmer - 10/16/2018 15:21 If treated and stored properly, corn should actually improve for a couple of years. I wouldn't think twice about getting 1 or 2 year old corn seed from a company that I trust took care of it. I would much prefer to have that then seed brought straight from winter production and planted. As far as soybeans, I would never take the chance on saving them over. For whatever reason, it seems to be just the opposite of corn.

Not sure why you think corn seed will improve for a couple of years.

That is not true.  Companies usually carry over corn seed from year to year,

in cold storage.  And then it is checked for proper germ. and then rebagged if

it makes the grade.

Seed companies don't carry over soybean seed, from year to year, as it does lose

vigor, and germ. is not maintained.  It is discarded, that is why companies don't like

to treat ahead of time, and then discarded.  Then it needs landfill disposal.

Regular soybean seed not sold can be sold at the elevator.
