Subject: Cotton Crop and Excess Rain Questions

Fontanelle, IA
Question for cotton farmers?

With all of this rain and the low temperatures and possible frost into TX, what does all this mean? I was hearing that frost hit un-opened bolls... how severe will the tonnage reduction be on these unopened bolls? Are there any lint/quality issues with a frosted boll? How does the rain impact cotton quality on opened vs. unopened bolls? Will you get mold growing in the lint? Do bolls fall off the plant in times of frost/rain stress/cloudy?

JohnSCKS post about acre feet.... How much of this excess rainfall will "replenish" the Ogallala aquifer? I was thinking that the Ogallala is fed out of an area in in the NE part of the aquifer up to Wisconsin and MN; however, isn't there some way that all this moisture will help replenish it?

Thanks for passing on any insights!

Hope that the sun shines on everyone today - it definitely helped my mood yesterday!
