Subject: RE: Help me understand “futures market”

Best thing I know is that there is virtually always a weather premium up until mid-June through early July. Makes sales before that time b/c the certainty of getting a crop becomes more clear, thereafter, and the weather premium goes away. If you are not selling that weather premium (prior to mid June or so), you are foregoing that part of marketing in hopes that something pretty dire happens.

Sell the weather premium every year. If that dire event does happen, sell the following year's crops to still participate at some level.

Just does not make a lot of sense to me to let the weather premium go year after year in hopes of hitting a homerun for one year.
