The statement that his dad’s wages is included in the rent of his land is likely the key. If the OP rents the land, his fathers “help” comes along with it, as well as his control.

His father’s sense of self worth is likely tied very closely to his need to control. No control, no renting land. Don’t ever underestimate some types of personalities and if it seems fishy or unbelievable be thankful to not have had first hand experience.

Many people are approaching this with the idea that the OP can somehow change the fathers personality or behaviour. He very likely can not. If the father truly never admits he made a mistake and blames every problem on the OP it is quite likely an impossible situation to correct.

People like that externalize every bad situation. When something goes wrong it was caused by other people. Even if it was something they clearly did, they will believe that other people made them do it. When things go right though they internalize it. Every good thing happened because of something they did. That is the coloured glasses they see the world through so they never need to admit a mistake and why they never need to compliment or appreciate what others do.

To the OP, google the term narcisstic personality disorder. I suspect that you will be surprised at how familiar it will sound. If so, it might help you to understand what you are dealing with and why some people are advising you to run.

For the record, I don’t know whether or not running is in your best interest. There are many factors involved that only you know about. No matter what though, don’t allow anyone to tell you who you are and don’t lose your own sense of self worth in the process. Always stand your ground.
