Columbia Basin, Ephrata, WA | How many siblings do you have?
It seems the way these things usually get resolved is that the son sticks it out for XX years waiting to get some control of the farm, then eventually the parents kick the bucket and leave the farm to all of the kids. If you’re an only child it might work out if you don’t die of an ulcer first. If you are 1 of 5 you’re not going to make it having to buy 80% of the farm.
I think working with family can work great if people are actually willing to work with each other. Everyone has to give and take some. That does not seem to be the case in this scenario. If your dad is hell bent on keeping control, the only way you can possibly stay is to be just a wage worker and adopt some of the “not my problem” attitude that comes with such a role. Make sure the wage is high enough that you can be happy never getting more than that, and don’t take on more responsibility or criticism than a regular wage earner should. That may be a harder option than leaving, but IMO those are the only options you have.
