Subject: POWER STEERING PUMP PROBLEMS ON A KENWORTH

Picked up a used power steering pump for my 96 Kenworth yesterday, put the pump on this morning and still did not work. Also have a 95 Kenworth with the same pump that is working so we swapped that out to other Kenworth and still did not work. After more investigation we found that the input shaft going to the steering pump was a half shorter on the Kenworth that was not working, so was not engaging splines on pump. Both input shaft and pump have a male spline, and use a 1-1/2" female splined coupler with a snap ring in the middle so they can only go so far. So question is why is the input shaft shorter. Did it slide back some how and if it did slide back is it going to wreck something else? Could put a spacer in the coupler to engage splines but not sure if that's a great idea. I could take apart the next section that has the input shaft, but not sure what I'm getting into. Wanted to put pics in message but having trouble with that too, must not be my day.
