Strathcona, mn | I built it last year. I had been aquiring materials for a couple of years. I volunteered to cook for the church picnic so that gave me a deadline to finish it. The main tank was a 560g Nh3 tank. The fire box is made from a piece of 36” 7/16” Wall oil pipe. I have a smaller cooker I built about 6 years ago so from that had an idea what I wanted. This one also has a piece of 24” x 1/4” wall built into a grill. The main cooker is a full reverse flow design. The chimney is on the same side as the fire box. The heat/smoke comes across the bottom of the chamber under a divider plate. Then rises into the cooking chamber and back across meat and out the stack. There is an awesome calculator online that will give basic dimensions for openings, chimney, fire box size, etc.... based of the main chamber volume. One thing I wanted was a large prep area. It isn’t anything too fancy but prepares one heck of a meal. We fed about 50 today. Had 1 1/2 hogs on today. I end up cooking about 6-8 hogs a year for various get together. The most I’ve had on it was 350# of pork. I’ve done food for a couple weddings. Sounds like I have brisket to make for an upcoming grooms dinner. With 5 kids it is a hobby everyone enjoys. Lol
