With the M, depends on year, condition, and price.
A 76 Diesel hydro in good condition would be a good machine, but a rusted out 73 gas gear drive would be a hard pass.
With any machine, the later the better as far as updates and improvements.
TBH, for the slight increase in price, a 78+ M2 or a M3 would be better to have, much nicer cab.
