Subject: Re: A Guide to Genetically Modified Alfalfa

The 17% herbicide use figure was reported by a University of Wisconsin weed specialist in Hay & Forage Grower in 1998 (Wilke, Cheryl Weibye. 1998. "Roundup Ready alfalfa might benefit corn, too," Hay & Forage Grower, January 1.) USDA/NASS and another UW-Madison weed specialist both confirmed to us that there is not an updated statistic for the use of herbicide in alfalfa. In fact, according to NASS, they don't keep track of herbicide use in alfalfa.
