Aberdeen MS | Don't be so quick to kick wheat out of the rotation Rich, even if you have adequate rainfall. This year was a "fluke" *here*. Spring wheat yields were over 60 (some of mine went 70) over 135 acres I averaged right at 65, price right at $4. I have the capability (both market and soil fertility) of selling straw (about 65% was baled, still have a 8" stubble covering the field). Straw was sold for $25 an acre. You can do the math on gross revenue and what the input costs would be with only 70 units of N applied, 120# seeding rate.
Compare that to 45 bu beans and 150 corn (average 10 yr yields "here") and the respective input costs and wheat actually looks d*mn good for a rotation crop. | |
