Fontanelle, IA

Our northern latitutude hybrids develop based upon heat or growing degree units. Plant them late (after May 31 or june 10) they do accelerate maturity by 250 to 300 heat units to get to reproduction quicker.

Tropical hybrids have some photoperiod sensitivity. We are talking equator. Bring those tropical in breds up here to cross, you get a LOT of Brittleness. Might as well post a sign saying "here windy, windy". My Channel 214-14 was a product of global breeding and yes it was brittle.

The cornbelt is moving north? Yes. We will be raising corn in Alaska? Don't think so but middle Canadian prairies yes as already doing it. Expansion in Russia and Ukraine? Yes. This is a global deal but these companies (and their shareholders) want financial rewards to enter these areas in bigger ways. And, those whatever nice sounding term for govt we give to socialist/communist govts- they don't give a rats butt for intellectual property and patents......
