So where do you live? Who promised you 1 to 2 inches of rain? A forecast is simply that, a forecast. Given the information they have with different computer models they give you a forecast. They attach to that a percentage chance and coverage. Sometimes the NWS will attach an amount but usually are pretty vague and careful not to get too carried away. I'm talking written forecasts. Some of the maps they put out really do tend to give people false hope because they are misinterpreted. People see a precipitation map and they are in an circle or blob that shows 1 to 2 inches and they take that as gospel that the NWS is saying they WILL receive 1 to 2 inches of rain at a certain time. What those maps are really saying is that there will be a weather system in that area in that time frame and it will be capable of producing those amounts. They don't promise it but will usually attach a percentage of chance if you follow up and read the forecast. The deeper you dig and read on the NWS website the more you will learn about your true chances of rain. Now sometimes they just flat out blow it but if you really look they explain pretty well what is going on and what they think might happen. People see a forecast and think they are being promised rain and then get pissed at the weather man when it doesn't happen. If you are going off a TV weather forecast or a computer app you might as well go to a fortune teller. They throw computer generated maps up there with models that show certain areas getting a certain amount of rain when in fact they have no clue how it will play out. If it is of any conciliation we have been missing rains for the last month. We haven't had many real good chances either. We had a pretty decent chance today and tonight but it appears that is fizzling out too. When it hasn't rained for a while a weather system has a very hard time overcoming the arid conditions and actually raining. Corn is starting to fire pretty good and beans are wilting on hillsides or light soils. Not good. Best of luck to you.
