Subject: drilling through tile

Gettysburg, PA

Putting a new vanity in our bathroom and want to bring water lines up through floor.  Currently they come up through an exterior wall.  Haven't had a problem with freezing, but, I worry that the vanity (currently a pedestal) might prevent room heat from protecting the pipes.  Anyway, was going to drill through the floor tiles with a 1 inch concrete drill bit.  But, I am worried that the tile (these are 12 inch) will crack.  Should I be concerned?  Should I drill several holes with a smaller bit instead? Thoughts? Tips?
